something new

This one's for you cheffy.
I'm not in the holiday spirit much this year, and as a result, the christmas music that the ladies in my office have blaring is either:
a. making me grumpier
b. putting me to sleep (this is happening as i type)
or maybe c, "both".
Favorite thing of the holiday season so far: Sonna's mom's Russian Tea.
cheffy- this is a combo of Tang, sugar, instant tea, and cinamon. it's magic.

be inspired
I dont normally cry when 'famous' people die. in fact, I dont think I ever have.
I did last night.
and I might again as I type this:
"no one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven dont want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change again. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become old and be cleared away. Your time is limited, so sdont waste it living someone else's life. Dont be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Dont let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary." -Steve Jobs

orange crush: part 2

at some point i introduced orange into the space. the then boyfriend (now husband) went a little crazy (read: obsessed) with the new color, and it took years (literally) to get the orange back OUT of the house. Now.. believe it or not, I'm hot to bring it back.
The obsession has shifted back to me in a fit of tangerine induced karma.

stacks of stacks of books

there is something about giant heaping stacks of books that remind me of fall. After doing some crazy person level closet cleaning this weekend, i've moved on to re-stacking our library and creating new stacks all over the house.
this is productive, because i am getting E's law library out of the basement. what comes next is some serious demolition..... and fixing of the dryer vent. homeownership is very exciting stuff.

I'm not entirely sure what' s happening in this picture... I think it may have something to do with eyelash curling, an activity that my dear husband cant bear to watch. Something about it reminds him of a Clockwork Orange.
not exactly the best association to have with your wife.
Kubrick aside, this photo is the inspirational image for the hairpiece I plan to wear to Jill's roaring 20's birthday party. I love a girl who still throws dress-up parties. Even as the 30's approach. Well done.

Park(ing) Day
Seattle, of course, loves this holiday. This temporary park is constructed in front of the building I work in, by the architects at Bohlin. This photo is of a real architect, sketching on first avenue, on real grass.
So cool.
PS- On an un-related note: let's all take a moment to remember that photo-dumping on your blog is bad form.

Looking Dapper.

Here's to the awesome dudes in my life who love bow ties. You guys rock. Here's also to keeping my fingers crossed that one dude can manage a bow tie without the help of the other dude.
How did anyone get dressed before YouTube? Seriously, that sh*t is complicated.
Cheers!

schnoble's

the schnoble household is home to one very old eames chair; belonging originally to grandpa schneider, then papa schneider, and now one mr. evan schneider. last year it suffered a tragic break... the classic 'rubber shock fail', and afterward sat in the GBR for waaaay to long. it's finally boxed up and soon to be on its way back to herman miller for some much needed R&R.
i was thinking it might need a little welcome home party.
and a gold stump. it's totally a marriage of lana glam and classic evan. perfect for casa de schnoble. yes yes yes?

orange crush

Remember the blue wall? Remember what a bad idea it was? Well, I'm hot on the heels of another doosie. My good friend pragmatism will probably keep me from making another online purchase....
oh wait, that was my husband's root canal that I'm thinking of. that's what's keeping me from making another online purchase. that's right.

summer centerpiece?
Dad: (accusatory finger pointed at lazy susan) What the hell is that??
Cousin: Uh, I think it's a piggy bank...
Dad: (larger hand gestures) Why the hell is it on the table??
....apparently dad was less excited about my latest find than me. ya win some. ya lose some.

when your alignment is off.

today i am having a plumbing crisis. the location of existing plumbing is contradicting my floor plan. there is a supposed hostile stub up in the open corner of the WC. highlighted for dramatic effect in vendetta red. what's a girl to do?

foodie highlight from france

we were at: Le Bar a huitres in Saint Germain. they were served on ice, in their shells with a variety of sauces (most of which i had no idea what they were...) An easy one to identify was a red-wine vinaigrette with some floaty things- likely onions/shallots/something like that. the texture of the snails was firm but not rubbery and paired a little too well with white wine. Tres bon!

white is the new blue

I'm also thinking that in my next life (or next career, which ever comes first) that i will be a curiosity shop keep. since i cant very well name a curiosity shop 'hot bananas', I am brainstorming names.

feeling blue
Going completely against everything i have embraced design-wise for the last four years, i am starting the new year with a new chapter. blue. it's going up tonight... and so far it's looking VERY blue in my completely beige house..... so we'll see how long this lasts. it's just one wall- the one opposite the entry door. right now it says 'welcome to the smurf house'... hopefully a little deluxing with art and books will make it seem not so shocking. the blue painter's tape trim is also not helping... actually, they are almost the same color. which is scary. please direct prayers to the new smurfs at L'amourita.
