long lost breakfast

Breakfast has reached a new high at the Schnoble's.

The long-lost waffle maker has come home.

There is a good story here: Most any girl who has been married/ been part of a wedding/ purchased a wedding present in modern society is familiar with the 'registry'. A well known fact about registries: brides tend to keep a *very* close eye on them prior to the big day. SO... back in january I 'registered' for a waffle maker from the good people at Macy's. Then in May to my great delight someone purchased it. The wedding day came and went however, with no sign of the waffle maker. For months after the wedding on multiple saturday mornings I lamented to Evan, "you know what sounds good for breakfast?? WAFFLES? who buys a waffle maker as a wedding gift and then KEEPS it?!?!".

Turns out that our dear friends Nic and Anna were the purchaser's of the waffle maker in question. Anna, being similar in disposition to myself, made the purchase well ahead of the wedding so as to be prepared before the arrival of her daughter. Last night over beers and a Husky game, out came the wedding present! and voila, breakfast is born.

to turkey or not to turkey?

E and I are considering turkey as a GPmoon destination. So far, I have heard nothing but absolutely fantastic reviews from folks who have taken a turkish holiday. It sounds both adventurous and romantic, urban and remote, action (read bartering with a calculator at random night bazaar over rugs)and relaxing (read hammock, cocktail and annie jo recommended book).

we are thinking a couple days in istanbul, then south to the mediterranean coast, then west(i think it's west?), by catching a gulet to the greek islands. I'd REALLY love to ride a camel somewhere in there (it's on the bucket 30 list), but I'm not entirely sure where to put that on the schedule. i hope the husband is prepared for the hours i plan to spend haggling over pottery and kilim's.

...........is back!!!

so now I'm married. and very white. I came across this information the other day at Barnes and Noble. I'm actually surprised there wasnt a chapter dedicated to that in itself. If you're capable of having a good laugh at your socially liberal-enviro-yuppie self, check it out.
and with this thrust back into the blogoshpere, I'll leave you again (though not for nearly as long. sorry about that) with one of my favorite excerpts from the hilariously humbling compilation of sarcastic rants:

"MODERN FURNITURE: When white people envision their dream home, a key part of the fantasy involves at least one piece of furniture designed by a famous architect from the 30's. (VanderRohe, Eames, Le Corbusier, etc."

"SOCCER: Many white people will tell you that they are very into soccer. But be careful, it's a trap. If you attempt to engage them about your favorite soccer team or talk about famous moments in soccer history, you are likely to be met with blank stares. This is because white people dont actually enjoy watching soccer. They just like telling their friends that they are into it. In fact, the main reason white people like soccer is so that they can buy a new scarf"

"MUSICAL COMEDY: One of the more interesting things about white people is that they love singing comedians. They style of humor involves a person or group singing a song, but instead of being serious, the song has funny lyrics. It's not any more complicated than that, yet white people cant get enough of it... It's a pretty good idea, because when you have jokes that aren't that great, and music that isn't that great, you can just mix them together to create something that will entertain white people"

I could go on and on.....
