wino wednesday

baked potato chili and zucchini (difficulty level: beginner)
step one: boil potatoes - chop into smaller pieces, cook until soft when forked
step two: open can of chili, dump into pot on stove, simmer on med-low
step three: saute (4) sliced zukes in a pan with 2 T. (tablespoons, remember these are the lines of the cube of butter), about 5-7 minutes until tender and golden brown
step four: add my secret magical ingredients to potatoes and zukes- "salt.peppa.garlic"
step four: dish up and top with shredded cheddar and a side of sour cream
cheers chef spears!

googlie eyes as promised

following up yesterday's post with evan's favortite artist: mark ryden. we saw his show at the frye several years back- wondertoonel, and he also has a few pieces down at roq la rue in belltown. word on the street is that he is a severe insomniac. and an artist, so by default he's a bit of a wierdo. you can check out some of his freakier content here if you dare; this one 'girl in a fur skirt' i might consider hanging at home, if not for it's $75K starting price.

sketch sketch

last night after watching too many you tube videos (a most incredible time suck) i decided to attempt some figure sketching. i havent sketched in a really really long time. aside from not being able to find a pencil sharpener OR an eraser, i did get a few things down that looked passably like parts of myself (though dont think for a minute i would post them here); which reminded me of one of my favorite artists, ethan murrow.
his works are massive (think 12' long by 6'high)and are done entirely with a pencil- so i think he may have carpel tunel or something unfortunate (which conversely makes his art more valuable- a concept that bugs me) but either way, he is fantastic. tomorrow i'll tell you who evan's favorite artist is. he totally creeps me out- channeling creepy fawns and abe lincoln and little girls with googlie eyes- take a stab if you think you know who it is. pun for sure intended.

ornamental ornithophobia

this dilemma reminds me of a recent joke: we dont serve beer to bears in bars in billings. maybe better off with no birds on bedspreads in bedrooms for bananas.

nobody puts baby in a corner

yesterday was a sad day. can you believe kanye west? my favorite quote of the ordeal came from katy perry, who said 'it was like stepping on a kitten', which seemed about right. and patrick swayze died. tonight evan and i will be putting on dirty dancing and prancing about the living room saying things to each other like 'i carried a watermellon'. okay, really it will be me doing these things while evan tries not to silently judge my obsession. how do you call your lover boy?

a real gem

ok, so i have recently been a bit obsessed with wedding blogs. this may be a result of the NINE weddings i was cordially invited to this season, or it may just be wishful thinking. at any rate, today i stumbled across this chart from the spirited year of 1939. i rated myself and came up 'spinster'. special thanks to beachy bride for locating this gem. what do you rate? and more importantly, where is the dude chart?

artsy fartsy
if you have been by l'amourita lately you've probably seen this. i got the inspiration from a modern design magazine a while back; they didn't know who the original artist was, and neither do i. my take on the concept is white on white with mixed paper on canvas. 48"x48" with lots of texture. and of course hot glue. i love my hot glue gun. lets call it 'untitled one'.
